....Yep,.....that's pretty fucked up all right.....
The odd part was the debate about whether he was insane enough not to be held accountable for his actions...
Communities,...as a whole,..are able to survive and thrive solely based on the qualitiy and value of what their individual members do...the actions they take... Whether they are "sane" enough to have taken those actions willingly or not has nothing to do with the important decision to remove (or not remove) that individual person from the sum equation of what makes up the community as a whole. If actions taken by said person reflect decisions made by that community concerning what is absolutely unacceptable for continued membership (i.e. the killing and eating of the community's children), then that person MUST be removed from being a part of that community, sane or not, for the sake of the well-being of the community itself. That's the only healthy response...
Note that I didn't say he needed to be killed (though in some communities lacking the capacity to find further use for the individual, that might be the perfect/only real answer)... If kept alive, such an individual as this one (having lost ALL rights as a member of that community by merit of their hideous actions) should continue to exist (if at all) for the sole purpose of intensive study in order to better inform the community as to the whys and where-fors of his actions, thus possibly helping other members of the community by attempting to learning how to prevent such future attrocities from manifesting.
Potentially inflamatory opinions, I know,..but I figured, if any,...this is the forum for them!
