Same as staged bull-fights fail to bring out the Hemingway in me, I suppose. I tend to root for the underdog animal whenever the roles are suddenly reversed.
It may be just a hunch based on fleeting information on how the hunt went, but I don't think Junior has learned any valuable lessons about marksmanship, responsibility or the food industry here. For starters, he used a pistol, not a hunting rifle. Pop just lets him make things stop living, pop has invested in a bit of exotic meat, and pop has been, lessay, selective in the info he's leaked to the local newspaper, so his Junior can look a bit like a home front Rambo in the War Against Vegans. Good old Nepotism. And I agree, I should be sarcastic and world-weary enough by now to just snort at the newsworthiness of this tripe and go on with my life.
Why do I think kids and guns don't mix? Coming from a country with a suspicious lack of war heroes, for me it does get tedious to explain this to people from a country with a suspiciously high number of high school shootouts. It just doesn't sit right with me, and goes against the values I've grown up to. I'm sure that in the next few decades, I'm going to be forced to revise some of those values, but at my own pacing please
